Understanding Email Sending Limits by Provider

Every email provider has sending limits. Exceeding them can result in throttling, bounces, or account suspension.

Every email provider has sending limits. Exceeding them can result in throttling, bounces, or account suspension.

Google Workspace sending limits

Per account: Up to 2,000 emails per day (rolling 24-hour period). For new accounts: Significantly lower effective limits — sending 2,000 emails from a new account will trigger security measures. Practical cold email limit: 30 to 50 emails per day per account (including warmup).

Microsoft 365 sending limits

Per account: 10,000 recipients per day. Per message: 500 recipients. Practical cold email limit: 30 to 50 emails per day per account (including warmup).

Why practical limits are lower than technical limits

The technical limits define the maximum the provider allows before hard-blocking your sends. But sending at or near those limits triggers abuse detection algorithms long before you hit the cap. The practical cold email limit accounts for the reputational impact of high-volume sending on an individual account.

The multi-account scaling model

Because per-account limits are low, scaling cold email requires many accounts. At 30 emails per day per account, reaching 1,000 emails per day requires approximately 33 accounts. This is why infrastructure management — and providers like Warm Inboxes — is so important for scaled operations.

Provider-specific quirks

Google Workspace counts BCC recipients toward your daily limit. Microsoft 365 has additional rate limits (30 messages per minute). Both providers count emails to distribution lists as multiple sends.
