How to Verify Your Complete Email Authentication Setup

Before sending a single cold email, verify that your entire authentication stack is working. Here is the complete verification process.

Before sending a single cold email, verify that your entire authentication stack is working. Here is the complete verification process. Step 1: SPF verification Use the SPF Checker. Enter your domain. Confirm: SPF record exists, includes your email hosting provider, has no syntax errors, and does not exceed the 10-lookup limit. Step 2: DKIM verification Send a test email from your account to an external address. View the email headers and look for "dkim=pass." Alternatively, use a DKIM lookup tool with your domain and DKIM selector. Step 3: DMARC verification Use the DMARC Checker. Enter your domain. Confirm: DMARC record exists at _dmarc.yourdomain.com, policy is set appropriately, and reporting address is configured. Step 4: Full DNS verification Use the DNS Checker. Verify all records — MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC — are correctly published and fully propagated. Step 5: Send a test email Send an email from your cold email account to a Gmail and an Outlook account you control. Check the email headers for authentication results. Look for: spf=pass, dkim=pass, dmarc=pass. All three should show "pass." Step 6: Check inbox placement Use the deliverability checker to confirm your test emails land in the primary inbox.

When to run this verification

Before launching any new domain for cold email. After making any DNS changes. Monthly during active campaigns. After any deliverability issue is detected.

The complete authentication stack in one view

SPF → authorizes sending servers. DKIM → cryptographically signs emails. DMARC → defines policy for authentication failures. MX → enables email receiving. All four → maximum trust with email providers.
