How to Write a Value Proposition for Cold Email
Your value proposition is the bridge between your opening line and your call to action. It answers the prospect's question: 'Why should I care?'
Your value proposition is the bridge between your opening line and your call to action. It answers the prospect's question: "Why should I care?"
What a cold email value proposition is
It is one to three sentences that explain the specific outcome you deliver, framed in terms the prospect cares about. It is not a feature list. It is not a company description. It is a concise statement of the result you create for people like them.
The formula
"We help [people like you] achieve [specific outcome] by [how you do it differently]. [Proof point.]"
Examples
"We help B2B SaaS companies book 30+ meetings per month by fixing their cold email deliverability and scaling their sending infrastructure. Last quarter, we helped three similar companies add $200K in pipeline." "We've helped VPs of Marketing at growth-stage startups cut their cost per qualified meeting by 40% by replacing paid ads with structured outbound." "Our platform automates the lead enrichment process that your team currently does manually — saving 15+ hours per week for similar-sized sales teams."
How to make your value proposition compelling
Be specific: "30+ meetings per month" beats "more meetings." Numbers add credibility. Be outcome-focused: Describe results, not features. "Add $200K in pipeline" beats "multi-channel sales engagement platform." Be relevant: Tailor the value proposition to the segment. A SaaS company hears different outcomes than a professional services firm. Include proof: A brief mention of a similar customer or result adds credibility. "We helped three companies like yours..." is simple but effective.
Length
Your value proposition should be two to three sentences maximum. This is a cold email, not a pitch deck. Say enough to earn interest, not enough to close a deal.
Testing value propositions
A/B test different value propositions in the body of your email while keeping the subject line and CTA constant. This isolates the impact of the value prop on reply rate.
