When and How to Restart Warmup on a Damaged Account

If your account's deliverability has been damaged, restarting warmup is a critical recovery step.

If your account's deliverability has been damaged, restarting warmup is a critical recovery step.

Signs your account needs warmup restart

Open rates have dropped below 30 percent. Deliverability tests show emails landing in spam. Google Postmaster reputation has dropped to Low or Bad. The account was recently suspended. Campaign engagement has declined steadily over several weeks. Step 1: Stop all campaigns Remove all active campaign sends from the affected account. Do not send any cold emails until the account is recovered. Step 2: Check infrastructure Before restarting warmup, verify that the underlying infrastructure is healthy. Check authentication with the SPF Checker and DMARC Checker. Check blacklists with the blacklist checker. Fix any issues found. Step 3: Increase warmup volume Restart or increase warmup to 25 to 40 emails per day. This high warmup volume generates maximum positive engagement signals to counteract the existing damage. Step 4: Wait and monitor Run warmup-only for 14 to 21 days. This is a complete warmup cycle focused on recovery. During this period, test deliverability weekly using the deliverability checker. Watch for improvement in inbox placement rates. Step 5: Gradual campaign restart Once deliverability tests show consistent inbox placement above 80 percent, begin reintroducing campaign volume. Start at 5 to 10 emails per day and ramp very slowly — 5 additional per week, not per day.

When recovery is not working

If after three to four weeks of intensive warmup your deliverability has not improved, the account or domain may be too damaged. In this case, retiring the account and replacing it with a fresh, prewarmed account from Warm Inboxes is the most time-efficient path forward.
