The recovery warmup strategy

After getting delisted from a blacklist (see Article 52), your domain's reputation is fragile. The blacklisting incident is in the past, but email providers still remember the damage. You need to rebuild positive reputation quickly and consistently. Step 1: Resolve the root cause Before starting recovery warmup, fix whatever caused the blacklisting. Clean your list. Fix authentication. Reduce volume. Address spam complaints. If you start recovery warmup without fixing the root cause, you will end up back on the blacklist. Step 2: Run intensive warmup Start warmup at 20 to 30 emails per day on all accounts on the affected domain. Keep warmup-only (no campaigns) for a minimum of 21 days. The intensive warmup volume generates a high density of positive engagement signals. Step 3: Monitor progress Check Google Postmaster Tools weekly for reputation improvement. Check the blacklist checker to ensure you have not been re-listed. Test deliverability with the deliverability checker every few days. Step 4: Cautious campaign restart After 21 days of clean warmup, test deliverability. If results are good, begin campaigns at very low volume — 5 to 10 per day. Increase by 5 per week, not per day.

If the domain was listed on a major blacklist (Spamhaus) or has been listed multiple times, the reputation damage may be permanent.
