How to Use AI-Powered Reply Categorization
AI-powered reply categorization automates the process of sorting replies by type and intent.

What AI reply categorization does
When a reply arrives, the AI analyzes the text and categorizes it as: interested, not interested, out of office, wrong person, timing (not now), question, or unsubscribe.
Implementation
Built-in: Smartlead offers native AI reply categorization. Other platforms are adding this feature. Custom: Using n8n or Make, route replies through ChatGPT API for classification. The API prompt: "Classify this email reply as one of: interested, not_interested, out_of_office, wrong_person, timing, question, unsubscribe. Reply text: [reply]"
Why automated categorization matters at scale
At 50+ replies per day, manual categorization is time-consuming. Automated categorization enables instant routing: interested replies trigger immediate SDR notification, unsubscribes are processed automatically, and out-of-office replies pause the sequence.
Accuracy
Current AI categorization is approximately 85 to 90 percent accurate. This means 10 to 15 percent of replies need manual reclassification. As models improve, accuracy will increase. For now, use AI categorization as a first pass and have a human review flagged or ambiguous cases.
