Google Postmaster Tools provides direct insight into how Google views your domain's email reputation. Every cold emailer sending to Gmail addresses should set this up.

What Google Postmaster Tools shows

Domain reputation: High, Medium, Low, or Bad. This is Google's assessment of your domain's trustworthiness. IP reputation: The reputation of the IP addresses sending your email (relevant if you use shared IPs through your email provider). Spam rate: The percentage of your emails marked as spam by Gmail users. Authentication: Whether your emails pass SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. Encryption: Whether your emails use TLS encryption. Delivery errors: Types of errors Gmail encounters when processing your email.

How to set up

Go to postmaster.google.com. Sign in with a Google account. Click "Add Domain" and enter your cold email domain. Verify domain ownership by adding a TXT record to your DNS. After verification and DNS propagation, data will begin populating (requires a minimum volume of emails to Gmail).

How to interpret the data

Domain reputation — High: Everything is working well. Medium: Watch closely, minor issues may exist. Low: Deliverability is impaired, take action. Bad: Critical problem, stop sending and investigate immediately. Spam rate: Keep below 0.1%. If it exceeds 0.3%, you have a serious problem. Authentication: SPF, DKIM, and DMARC should all show high pass rates. Any failures need investigation using the SPF Checker and DMARC Checker.

Monitoring cadence

Check weekly during active campaigns. Check daily if you notice any deliverability issues. The data typically lags by 24 to 48 hours, so check consistently to catch trends early.
