Executives receive more email than anyone in the organization. They scan ruthlessly. They have assistants who filter incoming messages. Your email has less than three seconds to prove its worth.

What C-suite cold emails must be

Extremely short. Under 50 words in the body. Executives do not read long emails from strangers. Immediately relevant. The first sentence must connect to something they care about — a strategic priority, a competitive threat, or a business outcome. Outcome-focused. Do not mention features, products, or solutions. Talk about results: revenue, cost savings, competitive advantage, risk reduction. Peer-level in tone. Write as a professional peer, not a subordinate selling something. Casual confidence, not desperate pitching.

The assistant factor

Many executives have assistants who screen email. Your email may be read by the assistant first. If it is clearly relevant and specific, the assistant may forward it to the executive or respond on their behalf. If it looks like generic spam, the assistant deletes it.

Multi-threading with the C-suite

Send one email to the executive and a more detailed email to a VP or Director who reports to them. If the executive is interested, they may forward your email to their report. If the report is interested, they may champion your solution to the executive. Either path works in your favor.
