When deliverability collapses, you need a systematic recovery plan. This article provides the step-by-step protocol. Phase 1 — Immediate Response (Day 1) Stop all campaigns. Every email you send with damaged reputation makes the problem worse.

Diagnose the cause

Check authentication with SPF Checker and DMARC Checker. Check blacklists with the blacklist checker. Check domain reputation in Google Postmaster Tools. Check account health in Google Admin or Microsoft Admin. Run deliverability tests with the deliverability checker. Phase 2 — Fix Root Cause (Days 1-3) If authentication is broken: Fix DNS records immediately. If blacklisted: Submit delisting requests. If account is suspended: Follow provider's recovery process. If warmup has stopped: Restart warmup at low volume. If content is the issue: Rewrite all templates. Phase 3 — Warmup Recovery (Days 3-14) Increase warmup volume to rebuild positive engagement signals. Do not send any campaign emails during this phase. Monitor daily for improvement signals: Postmaster reputation changes, inbox placement test results. Phase 4 — Gradual Re-entry (Days 14-21) Start with very low campaign volume — 10 emails per day per account. Target your highest-quality, most-likely-to-engage segment first. Monitor engagement closely. If reply rates are healthy, gradually increase volume by 5 emails per day per account per week. Phase 5 — Full Recovery (Days 21-30) Return to normal volume. Continue monitoring closely for 30 days post-recovery. Implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence.

When to abandon a domain
